7 Weeks

7 Weeks Old

Here's our happy boy at 7 weeks old. He's happiest in the morning when he first wakes up.

Here's are little snuggle bug. I love this picture of him snuggled up on Anthony with his little bum sticking out. He really loves being close to us, so I bought a Moby Wrap that allows me to keep him snuggled close but still be hands-free. I love it, and from the look on his face while he was in it he loves it too.

Sleepy baby. Our little man likes to sleep and is so cute when he does. :)

Memorial Day Weekend we had lots of rain, so we decided to go shopping in Idaho Falls. Cannon seemed to like the rain on the window.

We love his cute little noises and coos. And we especially love playing this cooing game with him. Daddy is especially good at it. He will coo at Cannon and baby mimics him.

Here is another fun noise Cannon makes. Unfortunately it is not a happy noise....but it is definitely funny. When Cannon gets cranky and frustrated he starts blowing raspberries. It's hard not to laugh when he does it.

This week we noticed Cannon is starting to focus his eyes on things farther away. He noticed the mobile above his changing table for the first time. He got really excited about it when we blew on it and made it move. He also started showing interest in the mobile above his swing. He's started staring at the animals as the spin above him.

And here is our fun new addition to our car. We're really happy with how the stick figure faces turned out. We picked the baby face that had the most hair. :)

Cousin Time with Ramona!!

Aunt Kelly & Cousin Ramona flew out to Idaho from Arizona for the weekend. I was so excited for them to come as they were the first members of my family to come meet Cannon. Ramona is 7 mos old and did pretty well with 5 week old Cannon. It was really funny to watch the babies interact.

Kelly crocheted the darling bunny ear hat that Cannon wore in his newborn photos. She's really crafty and always busy making some fun thing for her family or as a gift for someone else. While they were here she showed off the blue hat she made for Ramona that made her look like she had blue hair. Would you look at how cute Ramona is with her big, beautiful eyes and that blue wig!

We enjoyed trading babies and turning the living room into a baby play-place. Ramona liked the tummy-time mat that my friend, Eileen, made for Cannon.

We went and got pedicures and took turns watching the babies while the other one got their toes done. Needless to say, my appointment ran a little long. Poor Kelly was such a trooper, crashed out in the lobby with two cranky, tired babies. She's so good with kids.

Kelly brought Cannon some fun toys, including this phone. He wasted no time in breaking it in. :)

Ramona was intrigued by Cannon and all his squeaking. It was fun snuggling..... until it wasn't. :)

We had fun at Porter Park on Sunday afternoon.

And here was our baby photo shoot.

1 Month (okay...6 weeks)

1 (and 1/2) Month(s) Old
Okay, okay...so I'm cheating and didn't actually take this pic until 6 weeks old. What can I say? Time just keeps flying by. I'll do better with the future pictures now that I know what setting I'm doing them on.

So here is our handsome man at 1 1/2 months old. He loves taking naps on our chests and being snuggled. He also really likes his bouncer seat and swing for when he's having "happy awake time."  He can lift his head up while laying on our chests and while upright getting burped (with some support so he doesn't flop backwards).

For the most part, he still gives us big, expressive faces and just little noises. He is also starting to blow bubbles with his spit a lot. :) He's very smiley and happy in the mornings and starting to make cooing noises and other cute sounds. When he's hungry he makes a little noise that sounds like he's saying "now." :) But if Mommy doesn't get to him fast enough he definitely knows how to wail! My favorite noise is when he's been upset and you put a binky in his mouth and he makes a cute little desperate noise like "em, em, em"...kind of like the noise a little puppy makes.

Cannon still loves his hands and likes to sleep with them out of his swaddle, even though sometimes it keeps him up longer because his arms still flail around a bit when he's startled or when his pacifier falls out of his mouth. He's figuring out how to use his hands more and grabs at our hands and faces when we are close to him and pulls on my shirt when he's nursing. He is also starting to figure out putting his fist in his mouth. He gets really frustrated and lets out little shrieks when it doesn't work how he wants it to.

He has big, blue eyes and his Daddy's forehead. We love that he is getting chunkier and longer as you may be able to tell from the picture.  He hiccups and sneezes a lot, which we attribute to the springtime in Idaho (and possibly inherited Dad's allergies). :) He still has all of his beautiful hair, which is getting thicker and lighter in color. it has to be brushed every day and washed every 2-3 days so keep away the little baby dandruff.

All in all, it's fun watching our little man grow. He has such a fun personality and brings so much joy into our home. We love our little Cannon!

Newborn Portraits

When Cannon was 5 days old we did a professional newborn portrait session. We are so happy with how the pictures turned out! Here are a few sample pics. You can see all of them on Anthony's website... www.aandb1.com/cannon

1 Month Old Munchkin

May 11th Cannon turned one month old! We've survived the first month. Woot woot!
(I'm still working on getting his 1 month picture done and posted. Having a baby makes everything take 5 times longer)

And what a crazy week for little man. I'm wondering if he's starting to go through a growth spurt or something because he has been so off from what he usually does during the day. Just when I have one thing figured out he changes everything on me! But that's just babies I guess.

We have to swaddle Cannon every time he sleeps because he continues to pull is hair. And not just little tugs, no no, he full out death-grip grabs the back of his hair and yanks! The poor guy lets out a pretty scary sounding scream when he does it to. We have to pry his little hands away from his head. We're going to have to start putting mittens or a hat on him because he likes to have his hands out to sleep and has become quite the little Houdini and can squirm out of some pretty tight swaddles so he can sprawl out.

Button, button, who's got the button?
Apparently Dad's shirt has the button. It was so sweet to see my boys all cozy on the couch. Then when Cannon woke up we noticed he had zonked out with a button pressed against his forehead. So funny, yet so sad. Ha ha!

For Mother's Day my sister, Laurel, printed out a picture of Cannon to add to the Grandkid wall for my step-mom, Nancy. So cute! In age order, Liam, Ramona and Cannon.

Cannon likes getting his hair brushed. He's pretty happy in the mornings when we get ready for the day.

4 Weeks

4 Weeks

Cannon loves his bouncy seat and his new swing. In the morning, he likes to sit in his bouncy seat in the bathroom while Mom showers and take a nap in the nice warm steam. He falls right to sleep. So cute!

Cannon is a good sleeper and pretty content most of the time, but we are still having issues with nursing. We've worked with nurses, the Pediatrician, La Leche League, a Lactation Consultant at the hospital and read a gazillion books and articles...as well as heard a gazillion opinions, tips, tricks, and pieces of advice. After 4 weeks of pain I'm worried that his bad latch is here to stay. But practice makes progress, right?

Being able to nurse is important to me and I'm not ready to give up (even though the Lactation consultant said she would have by now). I want to be able to say that I did my absolute best. So we keep pushing forward and trying new things. We've had lots of long nights and lots of prayers to make it through another day until it gets better.

Daddy is REALLY good at putting baby to sleep

Cannon has started grabbing at things more....mostly our hands. He sucks and chews on anything that gets too close to his mouth. :) When he insists that the binky in the next room over is just too far away, he'll grab at our hands so we will put a finger in his mouth. When he's really irritated he'll bite down really hard...what a little stinker. :)
